The music video is the ultimate form for me—pure image and emotion.
I love videos and hope to always do them…it does not matter what the budget is, if I see images, they rush to me inspired by the songs feeling and intention.
They are less obvious sales pieces and can work as art in certain ways. They can transcend and even though I am providing one interpretation of the song, I feel most videos could be interpreted any number of ways.
I love collaborating with artists and when given trust and free reign, usually the best artistic result emerges. They are not bound by conventional narrative demands or the time limitations of commercials.

Longer narrative features…the holy grail yet a maddening one.

The term documentary means many things to me. Truth, Non-fiction. Reality.
My point of view and process in creating non-fiction work is still very collage based. Whether the subject is a book, poem, my father, I choose to dive into the emotional terrain and certainly these pieces take on a very different and more personal and abstract interpretation than narrative features.
I would say that I probably think the non-linear free form approach may be my favorite.
Documentaries are stories.

Television is a great medium, and has provided wonderful opportunities to explore stories and subjects not fit for feature or short form.
The lines blur and I feel comfortable creating in any form. If it is an episode of tv drama or public television documentary work, it is all just a screen, just a story to tell.

A commercial is a form unique unto itself. It is a more overt form of selling yet can be immensely satisfying creatively if the ad agency and client are onboard with trust and faith in my vision.
I find commercials helpful, great as a source of economic freedom, the ability to work in short burst with great cinematographers on specific image or narrative challenges.
Commercials allow you to stay sharp and keep shooting—refining technique, trying new toys or tools to tell the story.

I have never considered myself a photographer per se yet after years of working I feel very relaxed with composing, purely ‘’seeing’,’ and then treating images I come upon. Much like I do in all the other forms.
The content and form of these images is to be judged or experienced by the viewer and taken into their subconscious with their own meaning. These are fleeting observations in my life, my experience, accumulations of moments and shards of life experienced, that I feel comfortable showing now to the viewers.
